Confused about Dental Products? Read Our Reviews.
In recent decades, a proliferation of over-the-counter dental care products has resulted in the consumer having more choices than ever. While this situation has increased the average man and woman’s access to affordable dental care options, the sheer number of devices and products available can be a bit overwhelming.
Reviews of Common Dental Care Devices & Products
Below, we will go over some of the most common dental care devices and products on the market today, and cover the recommendations that our Milwaukee dentist routinely gives to our patients.
We highly recommend you ask us about the following dental products:
- Toothbrush – There are a number of excellent manual (old-fashioned) toothbrush options on the market today, many of them designed to help the user reach areas of the mouth that were inaccessible with earlier toothbrush models. Despite these advances, our Milwaukee dentists’ office recommends that our patients use electric (mechanical) toothbrushes. These tend to do a better job breaking up plaque.
- Floss – Dental floss is indispensable in dental care. There are a number of varieties of floss available on the market, including flavored varieties and waxed floss, which helps the fabric slide more easily between teeth.
- Water picks – Water picks have grown in popularity in recent years but have not been proven as effective as floss in removing plaque and debris from the mouth. For people who encounter difficulties flossing, such as those suffering from arthritis or those who have dexterity issues, water picks may be a good alternative. Additionally, people who suffer from certain conditions, which make the mouth more sensitive, such as gum disease, may benefit from using a water pick. Finally, those with braces may also prefer using a water pick over flossing.
- Mouth guards – Anyone who participates in sporting events should consider using a mouth guard. Mouthguards help protect teeth and gums in the case of impact and can be particularly helpful when practicing any impact sport. Mouthguards come in several varieties including preformed (stock), boil and bite, and custom fitted.
